BASE Camp Junior Faculty Mentorship Program
Helps shape and advance the professional development of novice simulation educators
As Junior Faculty, you will be paired together with expert SIMULATION faculty mentors to develop your role as a simulation educator by focusing on instructional strategies in debriefing. Participation in a structured mentorship includes many exciting opportunities to:
Lead Immersive
Emergency Simulations
You and your mentor will oversee a series of high-fidelity immersive pediatric emergency simulations. These critical care resuscitations include children in respiratory failure, with physiologically and anatomically difficult airways, in various forms of shock, requiring advanced life support, with escalating traumatic injuries, and your response to a mass casualty incident disaster.
Each simulation gives you valuable opportunities to plan, experiment, and reflect on your approach to facilitating a simulation and your post-sim debriefing.
Develop Your Debriefing
Skills and Style
Throughout BASE Camp, you’ll engage in the deliberate practice of debriefing under the guidance of your mentor.
Your mentor will provide you with targeted feedback to help refine your approach to structured debriefing, explore different strategies, utilize a toolbox of debriefing techniques, and develop your personal debriefing style.
This intensive experience gives you multiple consecutive opportunities to practice and improve your debriefing skills while benefiting from expert mentorship.
Teach Airway & Trauma
Procedural Skills
Develop your one-on-one teaching skills! You will co-facilitate several workshops focused on airway and trauma procedural skills.
On Saturday, you’ll assist in teaching both basic and advanced airway techniques including bag-mask ventilation, direct laryngoscopy, supraglottic airways, optical and video laryngoscopy, and other related skills.
On Sunday, your role will involve teaching various trauma resuscitation procedures such as cricothyrotomy, thoracostomy, and pericardiocentesis.
